Former Mathias Mhere’s backing vocalist, Talent Chigwanha says she is determined to carve a niche in gospel music despite the fierce competition in the genre.

Speaking to this publication, Talent Chigwana who is revelling in her new album, Nyasha Ndadziona, said she is ready to fight for her place in the gospel music scene.

“I am not scared of any competition. For me music is an inherent talent and God-given so I won’t be pushed away so easily,” said the former Gombekombe Secondary School student.

Her latest album features the song ‘Ozalia Moko’ in which she hooked up with a Congolese Zimbabwean-based musician Dispatch which can strike a chord in many gospel music lovers.

“In the collaboration with Dispatch, I sang in both Shona and Lingala. It was not easy mustering the language which I was taught by a certain local pastor who hails from Congo,” Chigwanha said.

The Sounds of Worship leader also did a rendition of the hymn song ‘Hakuna Zita sera Jesu’ which is a soulful version showing her versatility in switching from praise to worship songs. The album was produced at Makumbe Production, a music recording company that is increasingly taking over the gospel music scene.

“I am pleased with the responses the new album is getting after I did sample it on a local radio station.

“Very soon I will be releasing the visuals for the tracks,” she added.

The album is the second after Ndakange Ndisipo recorded 6 years ago.

Apart from doing her solo project, the songbird has done backing vocals for Mathias Mhere, Tatenda Mahachi, Rumbi Zvirikuzhe among many others.

Currently, she is a backing vocalist for Trymore Bande.

She also had a stint with the popular gospel choir, Zimpraise.

Meanwhile, the gospel diva has called for her fans to grace the Prophet Bright Chikomo birthday celebration gala in Karoi on the 9th of July.

“To all those who want to sample my new offering, let’s make a date on the 9th of next month at Chikangwe Council Hall,” she signed off.
