Nyanga-based hip-hop artiste DroCole has released his new single titled ‘Way Up’. The song, as the title suggests, touches on issues of elevation and the state of being limitless.
Produced by 1NO, an upcoming producer and beatmaker who is also the AZIGOD MAFIA boss, the track is a clear exhibition of the talent that exists in the local hip-hop industry. The harmony between the beat and the lyrics gives the audience an opportunity to enjoy one of the best ever hip-hop pieces to come out of Zimbabwe.
If the current social media response to the song is anything to go by, Way up is destined to make a mark on the local music arena.
Born Cleopas Lamont Nzerombairi, the hip-hop chanter attended Ellis Robins Boys High School. He made his professional music debut in May 2021 when he released an EP titled ‘Heads To The Top’ which was produced by Atlanta producer, JNT Records.
The 27-year-old musician has over 30 tracks to his name. He has collaborated with many artistes from different parts of the world. In 2019 he was featured on ‘Raw Talent volume1 ” an album by French producer, Dirty Diamondz. The same year he began working with Corp Music Records, an independent label based in London.
In 2020 DroCole was featured on an album by French Dj and producer, Soniken. He also worked with Zambian Rap power, Mumble Jumble.
Apart from international producers, DroCole has also worked with local producers and artistes. The list of local artistes to have worked with him includes C Bleech from Mutare, Splits Loui from Rusape, Fun F from Chi-town, and Quazor.
Despite the challenges that punctuate the musical journey of all upcoming artistes in Zimbabwe, DroCole has been able to defy the insurmountable odds and fight fear and doubt. He has worked and produced music in the midst of all the crippling challenges.
He had this to say about the challenges he is currently facing: “My main challenge is lack of financial resources. Otherwise I could have been at another level by now,” lamented the rapper.
He draws inspiration from his day-to-day life situations and experiences. “I draw my inspiration from real-life situations and personal experiences,” DroCole pointed out during a recent interview.
