In pursuit of fostering inclusivity, submissions to online consultations for the Zimbabwe National Consultation ahead of Stockholm +50 are underway with consultations led by the Government of Zimbabwe with support from UNDP Zimbabwe and the Swedish Embassy in Zimbabwe.

The deadline for online submissions is on the 6th of May.
“The online consultation invites the participation of representatives from groups that include: Environmental groups; Women’s Rights Organizations; Youth Organisations; Government bodies; Private Sector; and Academia. The consultations are open to all but specifically target people with an interest in the environment, climate, and biodiversity,” said Jeremiah Mushosho, Programme Specialist – Environment, Climate Change & Renewable Energy with UNDP Zimbabwe.
The online consultation is taking place at a UNDP online platform called Sparkblue, which is available on the following link: https://www.sparkblue.org/stockholm50/consultation-zimbabwe/discussions

The online conversation and consultation is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to contribute to and has an impact on policy in the environment, climate, and biodiversity space in Zimbabwe and beyond. Post a comment to one or more of the following three themes of discussions:
- Reflecting on the urgent need for actions to achieve a healthy planet and prosperity of all;
- Achieving a sustainable and inclusive recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19);
- Accelerating the implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable developmente
BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT: On the 2nd and 3rd June 2022, a crucial international environmental meeting will be held in Stockholm, Sweden. Anchored in the Decade of Action, under the theme “Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity,” this meeting will follow months of consultations and discussions with individuals, communities, organisations and governments around the world. Stockholm+50 will commemorate the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Environment and celebrate 50 years of global environmental action.
By recognizing the importance of working together in tackling the Earth’s triple crisis – climate, nature, and pollution – the event aims to accelerate the implementation of the UN Decade of Action to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals, including the 2030 Agenda, Paris Agreement on climate change, the post-2020 global Biodiversity Framework, and encourage the adoption of environmentally friendly post-COVID-19 recovery plans.
The objective of the Zimbabwe national consultations is to stimulate an inclusive whole-of-society and whole-of-government dialogue on the main themes of Stockhom+50 as they relate to the national context. The Online consultationcompliments four physical consultations held in Zimbabwe in March and April 2022, and provide a platform for ideas, insights, and innovation.
