Zebra crossings are posing a challenge to pedestrians including cyclists in the Central Business District (CBD) of Harare as many motorists fail to observe the required road rules to allow pedestrians to cross or pass through.
Some pedestrians have been injured or killed at some of the zebra crossings.Also law enforcement officers like the municipal police have not been seen to enforce the necessary required rules for motorists to observe zebra crossing rules.
There is need for the laws to be observed to safeguard pedestrians lives.The dangers have also been heightened at this point in time due to sporadic chases of Kombis by municipal police in the CBD. This has resulted in some commuter omnibus carriers to violate pedestrians rights and endangering their lives at zebra crossings spots. There is great need for proper law enforcements at zebra spots.
