The United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) Party has assured citizens that it will work to ensure that everyone, rather than a selected few as is the current norm, will enjoy the country’s independence from colonialism.
The party was launched on Wednesday, March 16 at Harare Showgrounds by its founding president Elizabeth Valerio.
More than 300 supporters witnessed the launch and most of them did not manage to enter the Endy Millar Hall since it does not have the capacity to hold such a huge crowd.
Speaking during the launch, Valerio said Zimbabwe needs a president with people at heart who can treat every person equally.
“Zimbabwe is 42 years into independence but most people are still not enjoying the fruits of independence. Only the elites are enjoying. Thousands are in the diaspora in pursuit of better lives. Others ran away in fear of being arrested and murdered by the ruling government for political differences,” said Valerio.
The politician said if voted as president of Zimbabwe, she will deal with corruption, looting, unequal distribution of resources, and the manipulation of state security. She vowed to provide free education for primary school children, as well as bring back teachers’ and other civil servants’ morale and dignity.
The United Zimbabwe Alliance was formed on May 20, 2021, and has supporters across all the ten provinces of Zimbabwe. It has fielded four candidates for the March 26 by-elections who are David Kachidza who will be contesting for Kuwadzana East, Garikai Mlambo for Harare East, Gamuchirai Mutunami for Mbizo in Kwekwe, and Lenin Dzingire for Kwekwe Central constituencies.
The United Zimbabwe Alliance slogan says “Let’s build Zimbabwe together, ngativake Zimbabwe tese, Asakhe i Zimbabwe sonke.
“We are opening 30 companies before the end of 2022. We want to tackle the unemployment problem in Zimbabwe which has risen to over 80 percent. We are losing a lot of experts, who, after completing their studies go to the diaspora for greener pastures because there is no employment in their motherland.
“Sadly, hundreds of people are mauled by crocodiles in the Limpopo River while trying to cross the border to South Africa in pursuit of jobs. The poor remuneration of civil servants has forced those in the security service to engage in armed robberies. Dilapidated road infrastructure has caused a lot of fatal road accidents. The transport crisis is also a major cause of concern as there is a shortage of public transport since the government banned commuter omnibuses. If elected as president in the 2023 general elections, all this will come to end ” Valerio added.
She voiced concern about the rising cases of drug abuse among the youths and said the major cause was unemployment. President Valerio is a scientist by profession. She has been working for the past decade at Hwange Conservancy.
