Yesterday, the National Blood Services Zimbabwe (NBSZ) received a donation of Low-Cost Energy Renewable Solution equipment and USD 30 000 in cash from First Capital Bank to ease the costs of using diesel generators in the event when load shedding happens.
The handover ceremony was graced by the Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care Dr. Mangwiro who thanked the First Capital Bank for the donation.
“As the Ministry of Health and Child Care, we express our sincere gratitude for the donation that NBSZ has received from First Capital Bank. Blood is a life-saving issue and no other fluid can replace blood. I encourage other stakeholders and individuals to also come on board and donate other required equipment to National Blood Services Zimbabwe,” said Dr. Mangwiro.
Low-Cost Renewable Energy Solution kick-started in May 2020. The initiative came through Juanilla Chimombe who is NBSZ Executive Assistant to the CEO. The Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr. Mangwiro went further and said with the new initiative, transportation of blood to the required clinics and hospitals across the country will be easy as drones shall be used to carry refrigerated blood and instruments.
“Blood is life. Everyone needs blood. Road accidents occur every time. As such, I ask every citizen to donate blood to save lives. We have a serious shortage of blood group ‘O’ in the country and we invite every citizen to come and donate blood,” said NBSZ Chief Executive Officer, Lucy Marowa.
First Capital Bank is the first stakeholder to donate such a massive state-of-the-art technology to NBSZ. After the handover of the donation, the Managing Director of the bank Mr. Ciaran MacSharry went and donated blood alongside Cool Solar Manager Mr. Patrick Devenish.
National Blood Services of Zimbabwe is a nonprofit making organisation. Its mandate is to help the country by providing blood at any time when needed.
