Zvimba – Zvimba Rural District Council has been ordered to wake up from its slumber and improve service delivery.
The local authority which has got the highest employees among rural local authorities has seen its residents raising complaints on service delivery.
Residents in Raffingora have been living with flowing sewer, poor road networks, and uncollected garbage resulting in the sprouting of the illegal dumping sites.
Deputy Minister of Local Government, Marian Chombo, urged the local authority to up its game when it comes to service delivery
During a tour to assess the state of service delivery in Raffingora, Minister Chombo came face to face with flowing sewer and uncollected garbage which has been left unattended for days whilst most roads are in very poor conditions with some attended to many years ago.
“It’s the duty of the local authorities to ensure that residents receive the best service delivery. We can’t have things like sewer bursts and garbage problems to persist and not being attended to,” she said.
The tour for Raffingora followed complaints from residents over poor service delivery and residents threatened to boycott paying rates and service charges to the local authority.
A meeting attended by Zvimba Rural District Chief Executive Officer, Aenas Chidakwa, councillors and representatives from Departments of Roads, DDF, and the Minister was convened to find solutions to challenges resulting from poor service delivery.
