Young Women for ED Launched in Mashonaland West

Chinhoyi- Young Women For Economic Development group has launched its Mashonaland West Chapter in Chinhoyi with calls for young women to take up influential top positions in all spheres of society.

Deputy Minister of Women Affairs, Community Small and Medium Scale Enterprises Development Jennifer Mhlanga in her address during the launch in Chinhoyi said women should rise and claim space in all empowerment activities in all spheres which includes, social, economic and political.

“Let’s take up influential posts as women and contribute to the development of the national economic development, my ministry under the leadership of President Emerson Mnangagwa has availed opportunities for women emancipation and I encourage you as young women to jump on board and be part of the exciting economic growth” she said

“Gone are the days when you have to depend on a husband to take care of family but as young women let us be pro-active and participate in economic development activities as women we should take up leadership positions in all spaces, our government is walking the talk on women empowerment as we have many women in leadership positions for example we have five female ministers of state and a female national chairperson for the ruling party a reflection of the commitment for women emancipation and I urge you as young women for economic development don’t lag behind,” she said.

Officially launching the Young Women For Economic Development “young women for ED” Mashonaland West Province Chapter Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Mary Mliswa-Chikoka said President Emerson Mnangagwa’s vision for women emancipation augurs well with President Mnangagwa’s vision 2030 for economic development and women who take advantage of the conducive environment and positive enabling enabling space created by the new dispensation.

 

“As young women you need to be pro-active and take advantage of opportunities being availed for you in various sectors of which our President and government has committed in ensuring that women are empowered.

 

“President Emerson Mnangagwa is on the forefront in enabling a conducive environment that women are empowered and through his leadership we have noted increase in of more women in influential positions both in government and other institutions but as women you need to support each other. Young women for ED should be seen being pro-active in uplifting the welfare of women in the province and my office is ready to assist you in all endeavours. You also need to help each other in accessing leadership positions as we cannot talk about real women empowerment without leadership positions for women and your organization should be seen supporting this cause,” she said

Young Women For Economic Development Founding National Chairperson Tatenda Mavetera urged women to take up leadership positions and participate in all economic sectors including those dominated by men.

“Let us help each other to reach economic independence and participate in all economic spheres including those generally dominated by males such as mining, construction and safari and through this organization every woman should be economically empowered as we strive towards the success of vision 2030” she said

One of the provincial executive for Young Women For Economic Development, Auxillia Chemhuru said the organization is voluntary and non partisan which is open to any woman between the ages of sixteen and forty five who are committed to self economic empowerment.

“As an organization our aim is to see women in Mashonaland West become economically empowered and through the YW4ED we are enclosing women from all sectors to contribute towards the national development strategy 1 and contribute towards the national economic development, there are many advantages of being a member and part of this vibrant organization like linkages and networking and where you will be exposed to business market and finance” she said on the sidelines of the launch.
