Hon Tawaz as he is affectionately known in the showbiz circles (real name Tawanda Chisasa), is a Harare based budding Chimurenga/Afro-pop musician who traces his origins and musical inspiration from the famous Tokwe Mukosi area in Masvingo Province.
Just this midyear, he announced his grand arrival on the music scene with his debut 10-track thriller album, Guka Nembanje.
Honourable Tawaz’s artistic prowess is not only evident in the splendid lyrical and musical genius, but his ability as well to send home critical life lessons in a creative way.
His youthful, deep and insightful voice is laden with the rich moral values of Ubuntu.
Drug abuse, girl-child rights, social family cohesion, and drug abuse are some of the social ills tackled in the album.
He also lends his majestic voice against stock theft, while also encouraging the uptake of the COVID- 19 vaccine in the wake of the global pandemic.
He is under the able management and guidance of Didymus Mambudzi, with renowned Maselo being the producer of the debut album.
Indeed, here is the county’s Messiah with a specific mission to rescue the younger generation that is largely self–induced through social ills.
“I don’t sing for money. By any chance, the hot issues that I tackle can even make me unpopular. Those calling themselves singers are not taking time to sing songs that are socially helpful and weaving us together, as a better nation,” maintains Hon Tawaz.
A deep-rooted patriotic Zimbabwean, Honourable Tawaz is very keen not only to put the nation on the global map but also to promote natural affinity between fellow countrymen and their country.
This particularly refers to promoting all local historic heritages around the country in a bid to promote domestic tourism and patriotism, while also correcting skewed history through music.
Hence, the Song Tokwe Mukosi (which was declared a Tourist national site) seeks to educate Zimbabweans about the origins of one of the country’s biggest dams etched in-between two major mountains in the area.
His inspiration is to take this crusade across the country.
“A people without their own history are like a dead people,” says Honourable Tawaz.
His hot album songs have literary proved to be popular on airplay including the national broadcaster, the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC).
