A partnership between UNICEF and Mercy Corps has come in handy to address perennial water challenges in Rusape Town Council through the provision of solar-powered boreholes.
The borehole installation project is being done in Rusape Town Council as a way of stabilizing and normalising the water supply in four wards under the municipality.
Due to the day to day shortage of water in Rusape., the council has found it useful to resort to the clean, solar-powered borehole water.
The water challenges in the town are attributed to the growing population, which makes it difficult for the council to maintain a consistent water supply.
Acting Rusape Town Council Secretary, Engneer Charles Chidenga said the project useful in alleviating the water challenges.
“As a way of migitating the water challenges we partnered with UNICEF and Mercy Corps to set up a solar -owered water scheme. Our main main is to set up similar projects in all areas having water challenges.’ said Eng Chidenga.
Residents said the town population has grown exponentially and the water distribution system has to be upgraded. Despite the fact Rusape has a big dam which has the capacity to supply the whole town, the town has a few pumping plants and water purification chemicals at its disposal.
