The Africa Green Waste and Energy Expo and Conference 2021 kicks off in Harare today with this year’s edition described as crucial since it reflects on a milestone development agenda that coincides with the 10th Anniversary.
This year’s edition is running under the theme; ‘CIRCULAR ECONOMY: ‘I CREATE!” with the main event being hosted in Zimbabwe from the 24th (today) to 28th May 2021 at Zimbabwe Agricultural Society (ZAS). It is being hosted in the country for the last time before the succeeding editions are taken to other African countries. South Africa has already solidified and started to roll out its plans to host the 11th Edition in 2022.
The high-profile event which brings together delegates across the continent is being held virtually and physically with the main event leveraging on the need to reflect on celebrating 10 ten years of convergence for a green purpose.
The Green Expo has over the years successfully brought together green initiative practices across the continent in the best interests of spearheading success stories in climate change mitigation and environmental management.
The Africa Green Waste and Energy Expo and Conference Director, Claris Mandoreba reiterated the importance of the 10th Edition in the country and across Africa.
“The 10th Edition of the Africa Green Waste and Energy Expo and Conference is a reflection that as Zimbabwe and as a continent we have joined the rest of the world in taking steps to ensure the survival of the earth and the reduction of the negative effects of the climate-induced phenomenon and in this regards, we are celebrating 10 ten years of convergence for a green purpose.”
The high-profile event is expected to be attended by delegates from various nations. Among the notable guests include Global Environmental Facility Civil Society Organisations (GEF-CSOs) Southern African Regional Chairperson, Malinthe Kheleli and the Sunshine Group Zambia (SGZ) Board Member, Doreen Nyambe, who also is from the Zambia National Youth Development Council.
Claris Mandoreba also briefed on the major highlights of The Africa Green Waste and Energy Expo and Conference 10th Edition and the strategic plans put in place to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Africa Green Waste and Energy Expo and Conference 10th Edition is set to come in a series of events anchoring conversion to a circular economy, enhancement of partnerships for National Development Blue Prints and Development Agendas, aspects in the UNFCCC and localised Gender Action Plan(GAP) and Inclusive Green Economy mechanisms towards disability mainstreaming, youth inclusion and gender issues. We have seen it essential to have an outlook into Climate literacy and Post COVID-19 Recovery pathways.”
“The continuity in the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic has forced many countries to be in lockdown making it difficult for gatherings as well as conferences to take place. However, the 10th Anniversary of the Africa Green Waste and Energy Expo and Conference is going to be held virtually in most parts and will be streamed live on various social media platforms. The delegates from various African countries who are the main presenters for plenary sessions will be required to be on the ground with careful control of attendance numbers in adherence to Covid-19 regulations.”
UNDP Zimbabwe, International Labour Organization(ILO) and Green Enterprise Innovation & Development in Zimbabwe, UNICEF Zimbabwe, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Zimbabwe Agricultural Society(ZAS), Embassies and from the private sector, Schweppes Zimbabwe, Econet, FBC and Samansco are some of the key stakeholders of previous Green Expos and in the Africa Green Waste and Energy Expo and Conference 10th Edition, we may expect a more coulourful engagement.
