Hélène sur l’Everest (27) is currently doing her residency in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care. Her recent experience in a COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit made her think about what is important in her life and the causes that she would like to support in the future. Her project links two of her passions: medicine and sport. With that in mind, she has vowed to Climb to the summit of Mount Everest to raise money for a COVID-19 research programme.
”I would like to climb Mount Everest, the highest summit in Nepal and in the world, in May 2021, and donate some of the funds I raise to medical research in virology, and specifically to the INSERM U1052 unit in Lyon, France,” Helen told Spiked Online Media.
“During my medical studies, I was privileged to intern in Professor ZOULIM’s INSERM U1052 Medical Research Unit in Lyon. This team specializes in hepatic virology and oncology, and works on virus mechanisms (often very common amongst different viral families) and on the development of new antiviral treatments.
“I plan to directly donate part of the funds given by the sponsors for my Everest expedition to this medical research unit. The current context underscores just how important it is to contribute to advancing research in this field, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to play even a small part in that.”
More specifically, Helen wants to fund a French team where she was fortunate to do an internship, of Professor Fabien ZOULIM.
Professor ZOULIM has just become the Chair of the International Coalition to Eliminate HBV (ICE-HBV), which is supported by the World Health Organization: https://ice-hbv.org/ https://ice-hbv.org/?board=fabien-zoulim
