As DStv continues to celebrate Africa Month through May, music is being recognised as a key contributor to African culture and a range of programmes will reinforce this recognition.
Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said the music programmes were part of a number of celebratory screenings on various DStv channels in the build-up and follow-up to Africa Day on May 25.
“There’s a good variety of music from all over the continent, including Zimbabwe, with some special gems to watch that help us in Zimbabwe enjoy music from our brothers and sisters across Africa,” she said.
The Mziki Top 10 features the hottest music videos from East African artistes, including Afro-pop, Afro-beat, hip-hop, R&B, ragga, dancehall, bongo flava, Afro-fusion, Afro-trap and other genres. These are counted down on Mondays at 4.15pm on Trace, channel 325.
The official Naija Top 10 hits MTV Base, where 48.5 million viewers across Africa look for the continent’s chart-topping music videos 24/7, on Saturdays between 10pm and midnight, channel 322. Trace Naija is dedicated to the latest Nigerian and Ghanaian music on Mondays at 5pm, channel 325. These are brand new videos from some of the leading artistes on the music scene.
African urban and electric dance music, bringing together South African and Nigerian rhythms of R&B, hip-hop and Afro-pop, feature on Afro Music Pop 24/7 on channel 326. Clubbing and partying may be impossible in the current lockdown, but the doors are always open at Channel 0’s Lockdown House Party, Fridays at 6pm on channel 320.
“These are among the many musical flavours during Africa Month, including a range of Zimbabwean performers and popular Zimbabwean music,” said Ms Dziva.
