Resource Centre and Secondary School for Science and Technology Launched

Primary and Secondary Education Minister, Professor Paul Mavima has officiated at the ground breaking ceremony for the establishment of Glenview Mufakose District Resource Centre and a Secondary School for Science and Technology.

In his keynote address at the groundbreaking ceremony in Glenview on 4 September 2019, Professor Mavima said the Glenview Mufakose district had secured 10,2 hectors of land for these projects.

“Ladies and gentlemen this development is in line with your well-chosen theme for this occasion “Infrastructure a key pillar for the quality Competence based Curriculum in the 21st Century to realise vision 2030”. As you were aware that the District Office is housed at Glenview 1 Secondary School, the resource centre will among other things provide accommodation offices for the district personnel, a research centre and sporting facilities,” Professor Mavima said.

He said the district will benefit from the establishment of a Science and Technology Secondary Schoo which will be named after the late revolutionary stalwart, Dr. Herbert Chitepo whose contribution to the liberation struggle was immense and phenomenal.

“The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education places great emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEM) which are key for the industrial development of the country. This will also promote research and innovation hence transforming the nation in order to realise our cherished vision 2030 which is geared towards creating an upper middle income class society,” Professor Mavima said.

To complement the learning of STEM subjects in the schools, Prof. Mavima sourced 100 computers which will distributed to Glenview 3, 4 and 9 Primary Schools in the area.

Out of the 10,2 hectors of land availed by the state 1,6 hectors will be ear marked for the BSP(Z) resource centre while the remaining 8 hectors will be set aside for the construction of the Science and Technology Secondary School.

Prof. Mavima said the Glenview/Mufakose District is luck to be the first recipient of this kind of a school. He said the Secondary School will go a long way in decongesting existing schools in the district and improving access to education which is one of the key result areas of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

“Apart from the two upcoming projects, I as the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education would like to generously donate 100 computers to three of your schools, ie Glenview 4 and 9 Primary and Glenview 3 Secondary Schools. These computers will add value to the learning of ICT in our schools resulting in increased performance.

“Allow me ladies and gentlemen to conclude my address by congratulating Glenview/Mufakose District for securing this land for the construction of these two important projects. Aristotle a great Philosopher pointed out that, “Education is an ornament in prosperity, a refuge in adversity and a provision in old age”. “The future depends entirely on what each of us does everyday” – Gloria Steinem (Writer),” Prof Mavima added.
